YouTube for Lawyers

Robert Ambrogi’s LawSites featured a post on Martindale-Hubbell’s latest offering: law firm videos. Sounds great, but there’s a catch. Ambrogi notes:

It appears from the announcement that law firms opting for videos must use Martindale’s “video solutions” provider, a company by the name of TurnHere Inc. . . . Allowing law firms to add videos to their profiles is a good idea, but I do not understand why it would lock law firms into a specific production company.

I’m not so sure whether Martindale-Hubbell is useful to solo and small firm lawyers, but in any event I do have some misgivings about the whole law firm video concept. There’s nothing wrong with law firm videos. In fact, I think they can be quite useful. But when you do a cost-benefit analysis of the proposition, is it really worth it?

I would argue that if you can create a compelling video and get in front of prospective clients, then it might be worth it. I just don’t think Martindale-Hubbell (even setting aside whatever they charge) is an effective avenue for this.

Not very impressive; there’s a far better service at http://www.clientelevision.com which does a network-quality job.
